Our Story
The Wyatt Violin Shop was founded by violin maker Allen D. Wyatt & his son Matthew J. Wyatt in 2003 with the simple goal in mind to provide the highest quality products and services in the trade. We serve professional musicians and students alike with instrument sales, rentals, repair, restoration, and help finding the right instructor.
Allen is a violinmaker and expert repairman. He heads up our workshop and supervises all work done. He has trained with some of the most experienced and influential makers and restorers in the country and has over 30 years of experience with both the art of making and restoring instruments and bows. Matt spends a considerable amount of time "on the bench" as well, doing restorations and specializing in tonal adjustments. He travels the country buying and selling instruments and hand picks every instrument and bow for the shop. He is a professional fiddler and his passion for music is equaled in his interest old violins. Both Allen & Matt have spent a considerable amount of time studying the market of antique instruments and bows. Attending major auctions regularly, consulting for estates & individuals, and helping many folks sell their instruments. Allen made his first violin in 1993 & in the 1990's, Matt studied under his father and in the 90’s worked as a rental technician for Mel Bay.
The network of friends and collogues in our line of work keeps us learning, allows for special opportunities to help you find an instrument by getting to know what you are looking for. Trying instruments in the first meeting, discussing with us and we learns what you are wanting. Then he can look on your behalf. Finding a selection of bow from dealers/collectors/traders and many places all over the country and abroad. He has handled large estates (collectors, dealers, shops etc) and has been mentored by the best of the best when it comes to how to do honest business and provide a real value in top notch service and expertise.
